Freedom's John Challis Passes Away at 18
John Challis, the 18-year old Freedom High School student-athlete, whose two-year battle with liver and lung cancer received national attention, died at his home in Freedom Township Tuesday afternoon.

Avella Football - How Low Can You Go?
The Avella football team was already entering the 2008 carrying the burden of the second longest current losing streak in the WPIAL, having not won a game since a season opening victory at Geibel on September 2nd, 2006. Now the Eagles are looking at a roster of only 18, giving the team the same number of players as their current losing streak.

CTK 08 - WPIAL Class AA Midwestern Conference Preview
As always, the tradition-rich Midwestern Athletic Conference had the best battle for the top spot in 2007, with Aliquippa, Beaver Falls and Beaver all tying for the conference title. Both Beaver Falls and the Quips would advance to the Semifinals round where Beaver Falls defeated county foe Riverside at Ambridge, while Aliquippa fell to eventual state champion Jeannette in one of the highest scoring playoff games in the history of the WPIAL. The Tigers then fell to the Jayhawks in the title game 61-12, but looked to 2008 for another chance at WPIAL gold.

One scrimmage down, one to go for all 123 WPIAL and 9 Pittsburgh City League schools as preparations continue for the start of the 2008 high school football season on Friday, August 29th and Saturday, August 30th. Here is the schedule of scrimmage set for this Friday, August 22nd and Saturday, August 23rd involving teams from District 7 and District 8.

There have been plenty of changes to the WPIAL's AA classification this year, with five conferences being squeezed into four conferences. However out side of the now defunct Tri-County North Conference, no Class AA section has undergone more changes than the Century Conference.

CTK 08 - WPIAL/City League Saturday Scholastic Football Schedule
Everybody knows about the passion that is Friday night high school football in Western Pennsylvania. However there are still seven schools (well nine this year with Ambridge playing in the afternoon and Shady Side Academy hosting two afternoon games while playing the rest under the new lights on Friday night) that still play their home games either under the sun on Saturday afternoons or under the lights on Saturday night.
