Carlow University Student Athlete Spotlight - Josh Aldridge
|
|
The last thing that Josh Aldridge remembered was watching a movie at home. When he woke up, he was in a hospital bed recovering from an auto accident. The three-sport standout from Yough High School does not remember, but he was told that he rolled his car at least three times.
"Doctors told me that a year from now I might remember what happened, or I may never remember," explained Aldridge.
What Aldridge does know is that it changed his perspective on several things, including his outlook on athletics.
"I play every game like it is my last," says Aldridge. "When we lost to Center (in the 2006 WPIAL football playoffs), I didn't realize that it could have been my last football game."
Aldridge has played four years of varsity football, basketball and baseball, but frustration has set in since he was a member his freshman year on a basketball team that lost to Moon in the 2005 WPIAL Championship game. Since then, Aldridge and Yough have reached the playoffs seven times in the three sports only to lose each time in the first round.
His major goal before he graduates this spring is "to go out with a bang. I definitely want to go back to the (baseball) playoffs, particularly after losing to Moon by one run each year."
Although a three-year starter and letterman in football, and two-year starter and letterman in basketball, baseball is Aldridge's sport. A two-year starter and letterman, Aldridge was first-team all-section as a sophomore and junior, and was the ninth leading hitter in the WPIAL as a junior. He also demonstrated solid defensive skills at first base where last year he committed only two errors in 112 chances.
"(Josh) is a hard worker and constantly works to improve his skills" commented Terry Odelli, the Yough High School baseball coach. "His work ethic, competitiveness and character, combined with his baseball ability, make him a player who will succeed in baseball."
